12 July 2020
Dear Civil Society Major Groups, Human Rights Activists and Sustainable Development Campaigners
Nepal-Civil Society Spotlight Report of SDGs 2020_Final
SDGs National Network Nepal is very pleased to share the Civil Society Spotlight Report of SDGs 2020 of Nepal. We prepared this report in the context that Nepal is participating in the VNR process this year.
SDGs National Network Nepal, an open and common platform of independent civil society Major Groups and Stakeholder, has coordinated the Voluntary Peoples Review of SDGs (VPR 2020) this year, whose theme was "Amplifying Voices of the People: Closing the Gaps of SDGs".
The VNR process was inclusive, participatory, voluntary and based on the principles of Human Rights and Development Justice. The VPR 2020 was fully contributed by dedicated organizations and individuals.
This report analyzed the actual scenario, trends and tendency of development in the country and presents the views and voices of peoples, particularly of poor, marginalized, excluded, vulnerable and grassroots people.
Civil society Major Groups and Stakeholders including NGOs, Youth, Women and Girls, Children, LGBTIQ, Migrant Workers, Trade Unions, Indigenous Peoples, Dalits, Madhesi, Farmers, People Living with Disabilities (PWDs), Local Authorities, People Affected by Conflict and disasters, academia, CBOs, Landless and squatters, think-tank, Universities, development professionals etc. have actively participated in the VPR process.
In the country the progress of SDGs has seemed mixed in the last five years. Unfortunately, we see regressions in some indicators. It is urgent to revisit existing political, economic, social and environmental policies, systems and practices to tackle the new challenges created by the COVID19 pandemic and to protect the sustainable future.
We appreciate your comments and feedback on this report
With Solidarity
