Invitation to 2020 HLPF VIRTUAL Side Event July 15, 2020 1-2PM New York Time Theme: STOP CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN SOCIAL MEDIA

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

 

Please join us on this very important side-event!  The theme: Stop Child Sexual Abuse in Social Media (OSEC) is one of the most serious cyber-crime and exploitation using modern information technology platforms.  IT Private Sector is responsible to stop the exploitation using their social media platforms.  Maryknoll Sisters is part of the Investors led advocacy to influence technology companies take necessary steps to end OSEC.  In this panel we are joined by PREDA Foundation, a grassroots organization in Pampanga, Philippines to protect children from sexual exploitation; International Justice Missions’ *EndOSEC working with international, national and local authorities to catch perpetrators; Maryknoll Sisters Investment Advocacy through IASJ and ICCR is  using investors’ voice to address this issue with IT companies, voices from IT sector, and actions from national governments identified as source and demand sides.  This side-event hopes to address the interlinkages of SDGs 1, 3, 5, 16 and protecting the rights of children.  We would like to underline the important principle of whole-of-society approach to put an end to OSEC.  Now, more than ever, we want to highlight ending OSEC on top of every UN agenda in the ongoing deliberation on digital technology, internet governance, financing, human and children rights, and all applicable conventions.
