Dear NGO MG members,

The deadline for the submitting inputs to the NGO-MG position paper is March 8 (5pm Eastern). Your inputs are need by the 8th because DESA’s deadline for the final paper is March 20.

Please submit your inputs so that the paper can reflect the diversity of experiences of ALL of our NGO-MG members.

To contribute your thoughts, click on this link to NGO-MG Input Survey 2020  read the instructions carefully and add your ideas.  Time estimated for submission is roughly 15 to 30 minutes depending on the level of prior preparation of your  responses.

The position paper will address the topics proposed for HLPF 2020, which were inspired by the GSDR (2019), and are listed below:
1.     Strengthening human well-being and capabilities: Related HLPF topic is “ending poverty in all its forms and dimensions [most closely related SDGs: SDG 1, SDG 4, SDG 6, SDG 16, and SDG17”
2.     Shifting towards sustainable and just economies: Related topic proposed for the 2020 HLPF is “Sharing economic benefits: addressing inequality within and among countries, decoupling growth from environmental degradation, and achieving sustainable development for future generations” [most closely related SDGs: SDG 5, SDG 7, SDG 8, SDG 10, and SDG 17]”
3.     Building sustainable food systems and healthy nutrition patterns: Topic for HLPF is “Ending hunger and achieving food security for all: strengthening livelihoods of the poor, ensuring sustainable and healthy food production systems and improving the lives of all [most closely related SDGs: SDG 2, SDG 3, and SDG 17]”
4.     Achieving energy decarbonization and universal access to energy: Topic for HLPF is “Ensuring access to sustainable energy: ensuring access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy services for all and making energy sustainable [most closely related SDG: SDG 7, SDG 12, and SDG 17]”
5.     Promoting sustainable urban and peri-urban development: Topic for HLPF is “Bolstering local action to accelerate implementation: empowering and supporting cities, local authorities and communities; addressing issues related to sustainable urban development, infrastructure and people-centred services [most closely related SDGs: SDG 9, SDG 11, and SDG 17]”
6.     Securing the global environmental commons: Topic for HLPF is “Protecting the planet and building resilience: pursuing policies, investments and innovation to address disaster risk reduction and protect the Planet from degradation [most closely related SDGs: SDG 12, SDG 13, SDG 14, SDG 15, and SDG 17]”
7.     Additional Transformative Pathways — examples of accelerated action or transformative pathways that do not fit neatly into the above categories or go significantly beyond them and shed light on all-stakeholder, regional, or development status contexts.
8.     Leave no one behind — context of transformative pathways or accelerated action
To prepare your response, we recommend you read the Concept Note for HLPF 2020, and also read the"GSDR 2019 The Future is Now” as this report and its 6 “transformative pathways" (entry points) were the inspiration for the format of this year’s HLPF.

If your time is limited, please at least consider going to the survey and answer question #5 which is a likert scale question about challenges you face.  This question should only take a couple minutes.

Thank you.
