Dear friends,
It appears as if there will be a Civil Society Forum taking place on September 24 at the United Nations in Conference Room 4. This is quite a remarkable development which has only just been confirmed. Also just confirmed is that there is some availability for funding. Each constituency of the Major Groups and Other Stakeholders is, thus, engaging in an internal process to nominate up to two individuals to be considered by the Steering Group to receive funding. I am aware that the notice on this is unfairly short, but short notice is better than no opportunity. As is always the case, please note the criteria below prior to filling out this form:
1. The individual must be from a 'developing' country (funding does not extend to those coming from developed countries) as the UN classifies it.
2. The individual must be able to come to the United States. At this late hour, it would be unfair to select someone who will likely have difficulty in acquiring a visa.
3. The deadline for submitting your name to be nominated is Monday, 26 August, 11:59 PM New York time.
4. The facilitation committee will then look at the nominees and make a quick determination of who we will put forward.
5. There may be an opportunity for this individual to speak at the Civil Society Forum, so please consider this as a part of the application. It is understood that if the nominee is selected, they would be expected to work with the NGO MG and the MGoS in general to ensure a coherent message.
To those of you who applied or nominated individuals through the GA speakers call, you are most welcome to submit those names again provided you can confirm that you are able to come to the United States on short notice.
Finally, this is the form for those who are REQUESTING FUNDING. There will be a separate form that will go out in due course regarding selecting speakers. So, it will be in that form where you can indicate if you (or someone you wish to nominate) will be attending the SDG Summit. The agenda for the Civil Society Forum has not yet been determined which is why we are not yet putting out this call for speakers ... only the call for funding.
