Lessons from Social Solidarity Economy Initiatives in Asian Countries

This side event is organised by Asian solidarity Economy (ASEC) in partnership with the RIPESS Global – Intercontinental Inter-continental Network for the Promotion of social solidarity economy.
Asia has the countries with largest population in the world. It has some of the fastest growing economies but at the same time there is much poverty and inequality. With the implementation of SDGs we are seeking the rise of local people participation in local development. At the cities centre and rural areas we are seeing a movement of people as the grassroots taking control and breaking new ground in ensuring no one is left behind.

In this two hour session we will hear grassroots stories of key developments in Asia where community based economic initiatives which is providing decent work (SDG 8), addressing inequality & overcoming discrimination (SDG 10), through initiatives restoring dignity and justice (SDG 16) through collective –solidarity based partnerships (SDG 17).
We are welcoming all the participants to share their stories of community based collective action in addressing inequality and discrimination. Enclosed a brief guidelines for presentations:

Describe the target group and the issues confronted?
Which SDGs are relevant in the solutions undertaken?
What is being undertaken in this socio-economic initiative?
What is its impact on the target group?
What challenges & lessons learnt?
